A Jigawa State Magistrate Court has remanded a former governor of the state, Sule Lamido, in prison custody. Mr. Lamido is to be in the Dutse prison until May 4 when applications for his bail will be decided, Chief Magistrate Usman Lamin ruled.

The magistrate said he needed time to decide on the application for bail and another on the police’s First Investigation Report, FIR, brought as evidence in the case.

Mr. Lamido is being prosecuted by Ikenna Ekpunobi who obtained a fiat by the Jigawa State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Sani Gabbas.

A copy of the fiat obtained by Mr. Ekpunobi and seen by Premium Times shows that Mr. Lamido is being prosecuted on a four-count charge of inciting disturbance contrary to section 114 of the Penal Code, disturbance of public peace contrary to section 113 of the Penal Code, defamation of character punishable under section 392 of the Penal Code and criminal intimidation punishable under section 397 of the Penal Code.

Mr. Ekpunobi was supported by two counsel, Yahya Basirka and Aliyu Kiyawa.

After the court ruling and despite the heavy presence of security operatives at the court and around Dutse, protest by the former governor’s supporters outside the court forced the police to use tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Mr. Lamido was arrested on Sunday in Kano and his houses in Kano and Jigawa searched. He was brought to Jigawa on Tuesday morning.

More troubles for suspended SGF Babachir Lawal. Details have come in on his indictment on the contracts in which he and his company, Rholavision, were involved in the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE).

According to report read on the floor of the senate during plenary on Wednesday, Lawal received kick-backs into his personal and company accounts about N450 million from the various contracts received by some companies. 

Specifically on the grass cutting contracts over which he was indicted, N317 million was paid into his personal accounts after the contract of N530 million was awarded.

Initially, it was reported that the grass cutting contract was worth N200 million only.

According to the report of the committee chaired by Senator Shehu Sani, the N317 million was paid in tranches of N10 million, except once when N47 million was credited to the account on the last day.

The Committee report revealed that after receiving payments from PINE, at least five companies separately paid about N450 million to the Ecobank Plc account of Rholavision Engineering Limited, owned by Lawal.

The account number at Ecobank was given as: 182001809.

The ownership of the company was not only confirmed with the Corporate Affairs Commission, it was also established with the Central Bank of Nigeria that Lawal was a signatory to the account until February 17, 2017, months after he emerged the SGF.

Lawal was also said to have received payments through his personal account at Diamond Bank.

The personal account number at Diamond Bank was given as: 0003004417.

According to a CBN confirmation attached to the report, Lawal was still the signatory to the account of Rholavision until February 17, 2017.

The account shares the same Bank Verification Number with his personal account and 13 other accounts in commercial banks.

Here are the companies and transactions details as contained in the report:

1. Between March 29, 2016 and April 20, 2016, Josmon Technologies Limited transferred N317 million to Rholavision after receiving two “grass-cutting” contracts worth N530.6 million for the removal of invasive plant species in Yobe State.
The transfers were made in tranches, mostly N10 million per transaction, and N47 million on the last day.

2. For the “grass-cutting” contract, Mr. Lawal’s Rholavision was awarded the consultancy contract on March 8, 2016, while the owner was in the service of the government as federal cabinet secretary, in breach of Nigeria’s code of conduct for public officers and the Public Procurement Act.

But apart from that contract which formed the basis of the call by the Senate that Mr. Lawal be removed and prosecuted by President Muhammadu Buhari last December, the suspended SGF was also into other fraudulent deals with companies using PINE as conduit pipe.

3. For instance, on August 8, 2016, JMT Global Technologies Ltd transferred N30 million from its Zenith Bank account 114357188 to Rholavision. Then, JMT had just got eight contracts for “rehabilitations/renovations in Adamawa” State for the sum of N199.4 million.

4. Also Messrs Adamawa Boreholes and Drilling Companies Ltd transferred N18 million to Mr. Lawal’s company, after clinching N54.8 million contract to renovate seven classrooms at Yeskule Girls Secondary School, Michika Adamawa State.

5. Similarly, Barde Brothers Multi-Services Limited which was also awarded seven contracts to renovate classrooms in Adamawa State for N145 million returned N71 million to Mr. Lawal’s company account on October 10, 2016, and another N13 million between July 7, 2016 and September 9, 2016 to his private account.

The federal government has said that President Muhammadu Buhari will continue to rest until he has fully recovered and is fit to work based on his doctor’s advice.

Briefing journalists at the end of the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Wednesday, the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr. Lai Mohammed, said Buhari was not in the meeting because he chose to rest.

He dismissed inquiries by State House correspondents seeking to know if the president’s health had deteriorated to the extent that he was being fed.

Mohammed whose response to the question was “bunkum”, argued that it was better for the president to rest in compliance with his doctor’s advice, insisting that it was in his interest to get adequate rest until he’s fit to work instead of forcing himself to work.

“The answer to your first question is absolute bunkum. It is absolutely untrue that he is being fed. He was in the office yesterday as you all reported. “And if the doctors say he should take a rest, because they think he’ll recover faster, then he ought to rest rather than forcing himself to work when he is not fit to work.

“All he’s doing is following the doctor’s advice. Mr. President himself told the nation he had never been this sick and he is going to take it easy. He said it from day one when he came back from the United Kingdom.”

Mr. Lanre Gentry was on Tuesday quizzed by the Lagos State department of Domestic and S*xual Violence Response Team (DSVRT).

Speaking on the matter, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in Lagos, Mrs. Lola Akande, said it was disheartening to see the state Aigbe was when she came to her office.

“She was coughing blood from her nose and mouth and she had injury on her face which the doctor said she must have an operation. I was so angry that I need to see the face of the man that did this to her, and so we invited him and he came yesterday (Tuesday) to say his own side of the story to the official in charge of domestic violence.

"But any man that can beat a woman to a pulp like that to the extent that she is still coughing blood one week after the incident need to have his head examined,” said Mrs. Akande.

According to her, the Lagos State Government has secured a restraining order for Aigbe from any further abuse by her husband.

Adding her voice to the matter, Coordinator of DSVRT, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said the order prevents Mr. Gentry from getting close to his wife until further notice.

A Facebook user, Caroline, shared a story on how God saved her two nieces( 4 and 1year 6 months respective ages) from the hands of their school bus driver who made an attempt to abscond them.

She penned

'Two days ago, my nieces, the "Igwe girls", were picked from the house to school as usual. The school bus driver who has been driving for the school for 4 years, accompanied by a school teacher picked them and proceeded to the next location to pick other kids for school which is typical.'

On getting to the home of the other kids, the teacher had to go In to get the kids from their apartment (which I wonder why the bus was accompanied by just 1 teacher, leaving kids with the driver, but again, who knows the heart of man). 

Guess what? After the teacher left to bring the other kids to join my nieces to school, the driver had sped off with my nieces already. The teacher came out with the other kids and the bus, driver and my little girls were no where to be found. Continue after the cut

This cruel man dropped these little girls on the road. They were just standing there on the high way but God kept my hyper nieces calm. They could have ran to the major high way but they held on to each other. God kept them still. Hmmmm!

At this point, the school had called for help, reported to the police. Now, that morning, their dad got a message about a little girl that was kidnapped so he sent a broadcast to raise prayers and get contacts to spread the word.

 (Little did he know an attempt would be made on his kids)While he was at work, being acquintances with the DPO at Ajah due to the nature of his job, he was sharing the case of the little girl with him. While he was at it, the DPO was called and informed about a school bus driver that ran away with 2 kids, my inlaw didn't know the kids were his daughters. Can you imagine!

While the school tried to trace the route the driver took, after a long drive, they saw two girls standing lonely on the road on lekki-epe express way with their school bag and lunch box, holding each other and just looking. Can you see we serve a living God that never sleeps nor slumbers?

To think that someone tried to take them away days ago drove me mad. I shrunk from the inside on hearing the news that their school bus driver ran away with my 4 years old and 1 year old niece. But thank God who has the heart of every man in His hands, and constantly hears our prayers for protection saved them.

 We can't even trust anyone in this world and people's desperation has gone epic. I'd share the testimony so you can help me thank God wellaaaa..
