John Baiyeshea, chairman of the panel that was set up to investigate allegations against the impeached Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Simon Achuba has disclosed that they couldn’t prove the allegation he was impeached for.
Recall that Simon Achuba who has been at loggerheads with Governor Yahaya Bello was impeached on Friday October 18, by the Kogi State House of Assembly on allegation of financial misappropriation, “deliberate disdain†for decisions of Kogi executive council and absconding from official duties among others.
The Panel’s chairman described the impeachment as “the most bizarre thing that I have ever heard in my lifeâ€, and also disclosed that their report was submitted when the house was not in session.
He added that it was not possible for the lawmakers to impeach Achuba since they couldn’t prove the allegation against him.
“This is the most bizarre thing that I have ever heard in my life,â€Baiyeshea said.
“We submitted the report to the speaker around 1pm and I left Lokoja for Abuja. I was at Gwagwalada area when one of the panel’s members who had not left Lokoja called to tell me that he saw it on television that the deputy governor had been impeached.
“As far as the report that we submitted to the house of assembly is concerned, the committee returned the decision that all the allegations were not proved. What the constitution said by section 188(8) is that, ‘once the panel returns a verdict like that. No further proceedings can be taken on it.’
“That is it. It is only when the panel returns a verdict that allegations have been proved (to be true) that they can go ahead within 40 days. When did the house sit? We delivered the documents and the house was not even in session today.â€
The Panel’s report at the conclusion of their investigation on the allegation against the impeached Deputy Governor read;
“In line with Section 188(8) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) quoted herein before, we hereby report to the Kogi State House of Assembly that the allegations contained in the Notice of Allegations admitted in evidence by this Panel as Exhibit C7 have NOT BEEN PROVED.â€
This is coming after Governor Yahaya Bello nominated his running mate, Edward Onoja as the Deputy Governor of the state.

Following MTN Nigeria's message informing all its subscribers nationwide about new N4.00 per transaction for Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) charge used for banking service, the Federal government through the Ministry of Communication has reacted.
In a press release, the federal government through the Ministry of Communication and the office of the Honourable Minister of Communication, Dr Isa Pantimi ordered the Nigeria Communications Commission to stop such arrangement with immediate effect.

DISCONTINUATION OF ALLEGED USSD SERVICE CHARGE BY MTN NIGERIA
The attention of the Federal Ministry of Communications has been drawn to the viral text message allegedly sent by the Mobile Network Operator MTN Nigeria and other Mobile Operators notifying subscribers of a four naira (N4:00) charge per 20 seconds on USSD access to banking services from the 21st of October 2019.
The office of the Honourable Minister of Communications Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami FNCS, FBCS, FIIM is unaware of this development and has hereby directed the sector regulator, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) ensures the operator suspends such plans until the Honourable Minister is fully and properly briefed.

Tragedy struck at the Mabera area of Sokoto metropolis after soldiers from the Nigerian Air Force stormed the area and killed two residents on Sunday night.
According to eye witnesses, the crisis began when a lady, said to be the girlfriend of an officer, was allegedly insulted by youths in the neighborhood.
Provoked by the youths’ behaviour, the lady reported the matter to her officer boyfriend, who deployed a truckload of air craftsmen to deal with the culprits.

Men of the Department of State Service (DSS), have arrested no fewer than six staff of the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre over their alleged involvement in examination malpractices.
It was gathered on Monday that the six staff were arrested at the instance of the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Idowu Olayinka.
It was gathered that they were arrested following their alleged complicity for smuggling scripts for students writing examinations, fabrications of CBT results and falsification of clearance mostly for students.
It was gathered that those picked up by the security agency were top officials of the Distance Learning Centre who could not be left out in the examination process.
A source within the Distance Learning Centre gave the name of those who have been arrested to include; Edward Eborgu (Head of UI DLC software Unit), Kehinde Ajao (Head Student Support), Shola Akintunde (Executive Officer and Media representative), Ademola Okunola (IT personnel), one Lanre (IT personnel) and a certain David in the Director’s office.
He said that the Vice Chancellor was miffed by the development and approved thorough investigations into the matter.
He added that the staff were arrested last Thursday.
It was gathered that information leading to the arrest of the six staff, came from students who had been arrested during the ongoing examinations and a protest complain from students about illegal dealings of some non-teaching staff.
Our correspondent, who visited the centre on Monday, gathered that some staff of the centre reportedly stayed away from the DLC center located along Sasha since when the six staff were arrested.
It was gathered from some of the staff and students on Monday that investigations are still ongoing to get more persons connected to the examination racketeering.
But, the Director of Communication at the university, Mr. Tunji Oladejo, when contacted, however, said that nothing of such occurred.
Oladejo, in a telephone conversation with our correspondent, added that he contacted the Director of DLC, Professor Soji Aremu, who said that such thing never happened.
He said “I have contacted the Director of DLC, Professor Aremu, who said that such thing never happened. There is nothing like that. It never happened. I just spoke with the director and he said that, it is not true.
“I am telling you that based on what the the Director said, nothing of such occurred.â€
But, a source at the DSS office located at Alalubosa area, Aleshiloye Ibadan, told DAILY POST that the six staff were arrested.
“Yes it is true. They were arrested. They were arrested and they area still there. But, they are releasing them now. Some people came to bail them but they are still in the DSS office as I am talking to you now.â€
Enugu State’s First Lady, Monica Ugwuanyi has reportedly commissioned tippy taps constructed for primary school pupils in the state.
The tippy taps were allegedly constructed by a foundation that belongs to the wife of Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, to aid pupils of Amechi Primary School in Awkunanaw community of Enugu South Local Government Area in washing their hands.
Sharing photos of the commissioned project, OAP Gwen Divy Ifeson wrote;

The Police Command in Enugu State has arrested a “notorious thief’’ who engages in alleged vandalism of rail tracks within and on the outskirts of Enugu metropolis, NAN reports.
This is contained in a statement issued on Monday in Enugu by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ebere Amaraizu.
Amaraizu said that the suspect was arrested on the rail line within Emene community near Enugu.
According to the police spokesman, the suspect, a driver of a Mitsubishi L300 pickup was apprehended on Sunday by officers of the Emene Division. “He was nabbed following his role in the alleged vandalism of rail line in Emene axis where he allegedly abandoned his L300 pickup truck, loaded with iron rail tracks vandalized by his gang on Oct.11.
“The suspect and his gang had taken to their heels on that fateful day and abandoned the said vehicle loaded with the exhibits when police moved to arrest them,’’ the command’s spokesman said.
Amaraizu said that the suspect has been helping the police in its investigation.

Big Brother, BBNaija host, Ebuka, has opened up on Tacha’s disqualification from the ‘pepper dem’ reality show.
Recalls that Tachawas disqualified following a violence that broke out between herself and arch-rival, Mercy, on Friday, 27th September.
Her disqualification sparked uproars with so many throwing cash gift at her.
But speaking on Tacha’s disqualification, Ebuka in an interview with Beat FM, said the self-acclaimed ‘Portharcourt first daughter was bound to be disqualified, even before she pulled Mercy’s hair.
According to him, when Tacha pushed and shoved Mercy, her disqualification was already done.
He said, â€When Tacha shoved and pushed Mercy, I think that was when it was done, even before the hair-pulling.
†I am talking about the fight that started at the kitchen. Big Brother had called them to the kitchen to simmer down the situation, but the fight got even worse.

â€I don’t know what the reason was for not disqualifying Mercy as well but she got two strikes. I guess that’s what they felt the weight of what she did carried.â€
