Today 7 April 2017 is World Health Day. The World Health Organization (WHO) has launched the campaign, “Depression: Lets Talk.” For someone living with depression, talking to a person they trust is often the first step towards treatment and recovery.” Depression is the leading cause of ill health and disability worldwide. According to the latest WHO estimates, more than 300 million people live with depression. Lack of support for people with mental disorders, coupled with a fear of stigma, prevent many from accessing the treatment they need to live healthy, productive lives. (WHO) NEED FOR INCREASED INVESTMENT Investment in mental health makes economic sense and leads to direct returns in better health and ability to work. Failure to act is costly, and results in a global economic loss of a trillion US dollars incurred by households, employers and governments every year.
Symptoms of depression include a loss of energy, a change in appetite and sleeping patterns, anxiety, reduced concentration, indecisiveness, restlessness, feelings of worthlessness, guilt, or hopelessness. In extreme cases are thoughts of self-harm or suicide. People suffering from depression, must be able to seek and get help.

The Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, in partnership with the Ministry of Wealth Creation & Employment, plans to bridge the skill gap among unemployed Lagos Sate residents to enable youth take up existing jobs in various sectors of the economy.To this end, we will be providing different employability training. Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position below:

Program Summary
The Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment was established in fulfillment of the promise of His Excellency, the Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, to address the unemployment crisis in the State.
The Ministry in pursuit of its mandate to create emloyment, has developed different initiatives. One of such initiatives is the "Graduate Internship Program".
It is a 3 month paid Internship Scheme for graduates who have been unemployed for a minimum of 1 year after National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). The Program is designed to give candidates an opportunity to develop employability skills which are often vital in securing employment.
Requirements
To register and be a part of this program, candidates must:

Have an equivalent of First Degree or HND from accredited institutions
Not be older than 30 years
Be registered with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA)
Have been unemployed for a minimum of 1 year after NYSC.
Objectives
At the End of the program, interns would:

Have gained valuable applied work experience;
Become more employable, having strengthened their professional skills and interpersonal relationships in a structured setting.
The program will create an opportunity for Corporate Organisations to access best talents.
Have been exposed to possible niche entrepreneurial opportunities
Have built up their professional networ

Shortlisted candidates will go through a selection process, including testing and interview.
The candidates who meet the criteria will be deployed to corporate organisations registered under the scheme
The Internship Program is for three months
Certificates will be awarded to candidates who have successfully completed the program

This disabled Turkish couple have gone viral online after a photographer gave them dream wedding photos. Mesut Özeker and wife Ayça özeker met on the internet 5 years ago and decided to get married a month after they met.

However, the girl's family opposed it. They eloped and got married and reconciled with her family later.They now have a 2 year old son.
This year, photographer,Esra Özcan took professional wedding photos of them since they had none when they got hitched.

A bullion van belonging to a commercial bank has killed two persons and injured three prospective JAMB candidates waiting for their PIN number at a Skye Bank branch in Lafia.

An eyewitness said the incident occurred at about 3pm on Tuesday when the driver of the van said to be on top speed lost control of the Toyota Hilux pick-up van and rammed into a commercial motorcycle rider conveying a candidate.

The witness said that the van driver was eating while driving when the accident occurred.

He said, “The vehicle crushed the okada rider, his passenger and then knocked down three other persons standing along the road. The okada rider died on the spot while the JAMB candidate later died the same day at about 6pm at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital where she was rushed to for treatment.” One of the victims, who spoke to Northern City News on his sickbed, Mr. James Chima, said he was rescued from under the van after it knocked him down. “I was standing by the roadside beside the Skye Bank premises when suddenly a police van rammed into me and I found myself under the vehicle,” he narrated.

Another eyewitness, whose sister was hit by the van, said he narrowly escaped being hit by the vehicle which he said was on a high speed. “I was with my sister, Aisha Ikpanago, who had just completed her JAMB registration process in Skye Bank and we were discussing when suddenly the police vehicle knocked her down and hit other prospective JAMB candidates,” he said.

Ikpanago could not speak when she was visited in the hospital as she was in pain.

The police spokesman in the state, DSP Idrisu Kennedy, confirmed the incident, but noted that the vehicle involved in the accident belonged to a bank and not the police. "The driver is an employee of the bank and most of the bullion vans are properties of the banks." Kennedy said investigation had commenced into the accident.

LONDON -- A 31-year-old Romanian tourist who was knocked into the River Thames from Westminster Bridge during an attack on Britain’s Houses of Parliament more than two weeks ago has died, London police said Friday.

Andreea Cristea was rescued from the cold river after the attack, in which British attacker Khalid Masood drove a rented SUV into pedestrians on the bridge and then fatally stabbed an unarmed police officer outside Parliament.

Her death brings the death toll from the attack to five, plus Masood, who was shot dead by police.

Cristea’s boyfriend Andrei Burnaz suffered a broken foot in the attack.

Her family and Burnaz described Cristea as “our shining ray of light that will forever keep on shining in our hearts,” and said they would be donating to charity all the money raised to help her since the March 22 attack.

My friends and I commenced a project in March tagged "Confidence is Everything", with the aim of educating sexually abused girls on how to regain their confidence and develop a good self image.

The plan was to visit 5 secondary schools and reach out to 500 students. That is,100 students from each school.

Also, we agreed to give each of these students a book (Scar by Esther Adekoya) that addresses some of the problems teenagers struggle with.

This project is in partnership with HeartRose Care Foundation, they counsel sexually abused and depressed teenagers.

We have visited the first school, collated the list of students who need counselling and also distributed the first 100 books.

Although we've raised funds for over 120 students, we are not close to our target of 500 students.

Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has made this year's first seizure of Methaqualone aka Quaaludes from a 71-year-old South African national and his associate. The agency seized 14 kilograms of the drug from the arrested duo.

NCB had zeroed down upon the septuagenarian during his stay in a Delhi hotel and nabbed him at the airport when he was to fly out of India. The accused has smuggled drugs six times in the past.Earlier, the police had arrested another South African in Mumbai with the drug.

He told the police that he had stayed at a hotel in Karol Bagh. When NCB sleuths went to the hotel to verify his claims, they found that he had stayed there from March 16 to April 3. The police also
found that another South African national had been staying in the same hotel since March 29.This man, Jan Harm Herbst, was put on surveillance and soon the cops came to know that he was going to take a consignment of drugs to South Africa.

On April 10, Herbst and a Nigerian national named Martin were intercepted at the domestic airport. Herbst was to board a flight to Bengaluru.

When the sleuths searched his luggage, they found Methaqualone wrapped in polythene and carbon paper concealed between T-shirts.Herbst was to take an Etihad Airways flight from Bengaluru to Chennai from where he would have flown to Abu Dhabi and finally to Johannesburg,“ said NCB deputy director general Ravinder Pal Singh.

During interrogation, Herbst revealed that he had come to India eight times and ferried drugs in six of those trips.

He works for a Nigerian drug cartel operating between India and South Africa.Martin told the cops that he has been supplying the drug for several years.

He has been staying in India since 2007.He disclosed that he had supplied the drug to Victior, the South African arrested in Mumbai. His passport and visa have expired.

The customer base of Quaaludes is increasing in India. Last year, Delhi Police had busted a similar racket in which the drug was being sold to Delhi University north campus students.

The first African-American woman to serve in New York state's highest court a judge described as a trailblazer and "humble pioneer" has been found dead. She was found dead Wednesday afternoon in the Hudson River.

Police responded to a 911 call about a person floating in the Hudson around 1:45 p.m. They found an unconscious and unresponsive woman, who was later pronounced dead and identified as Abdus-Salaam. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death, and the case is under investigation.
Abdus-Salaam had been an associate justice on the New York Court of Appeals since 2013.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who appointed her to the court, hailed her as a "trailblazing jurist whose life in public service was in pursuit of a more fair and more just New York for all."
She had been reported missing by her husband Tuesday.

Abdus-Salaam's death came the same week a prominent Chicago judge was killed outside his home Monday. A suspect in that case has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Judge Raymond Myles.

Judge Sheila Abdus-Salaam was 65.
