Disgraced ‘Smallville’ actress Allison Mack first got involved in the infamous cult Nxivm because she thought co-founder Keith Raniere could help her ‘become a great actress again’, she spilled.

Mack, 40, who is serving ​a three-year sentence after pleading guilty to manipulating women to become sex slaves for Raniere, made the revelation in a newly unearthed interview with reporter Vanessa Grigoriadis.

He is currently being held at a Tucson, Arizona, jail where he was recently knocked out by a fellow inmate and put into a cell smeared with human feces, according to Daily Mail.

Mack in her revelation said:

‘I moved to Albany (Nxivm headquarters) to fill that emptiness and find the soul of myself again, if that makes sense, as it had fizzled,’ she explained in a 2017 interview with Vanessa Grigoriadis, which was unearthed Monday in the journalist and Gabriel Sherman’s new podcast.

‘I asked Keith if he would help me become a great actress again because I felt like I was a fraud.’

In 1998, Raniere, 62, and Nancy Salzman, 68, founded Nxivm, a personal development company that offered ‘Executive Success Programs’ and a range of techniques promising self-improvement with an emphasis on bringing ‘more joy’ into people’s lives.

The group made headlines after garnering support from Clare and Sara Bronfman, daughters of the late philanthropist and Seagrams heir Edgar Bronfman Sr.

However, the company ran into serious trouble when former members came forward claiming they had been indoctrinated into a twisted sex-slave cult, where women were branded with Raniere’s initials and forced to have sex with him.

In early clips of the podcast episodes obtained by Page Six, Mack maintained her innocence and claimed to have discussed the allegations of sex trafficking with Raniere, who founded Nxivm in 1998. 

Mack also noted that she had been confronted by friends at the time of her involvement with Nxivm.

‘You’re brainwashed, you’re sick,’ she said friends told her. ‘I just was like walking with myself and I was going like, “Am I crazy?”

“Am I one of these awful people that you read about that does horrible things and thinks that she’s doing things for God?” I had a lot of conversations with myself like that,’ she added.

‘Ultimately, I just sat down and I like looked at my life and I looked at my relationships and I looked at all of the things I had written, journals that I had kept — things that I had done over the last few years. And it was so consistently good,’ Mack said.

Despite standing by Raniere and Nxivm in 2017, Mack eventually turned on the cult leader after his indictment, providing key recordings and other evidence for the case against him.

Along with the interview with Mack, the podcast, which drops episodes on the Nxivm scandal on Thursday, also includes segments with Raniere.

During her sentencing last year, Mack denounced Raniere and apologized to her victims, saying: ‘I made choices I will forever regret.

‘I’m filled with remorse and guilt. I renounced Keith Raniere and all of his teachings. From the deepest part of my soul, I am sorry.’

Mack, who was once part of Raniere’s inner circle, had given them a recording of a conversation she had with Raniere about the branding, which was used to bolster their case against him.

She had also provided information to prosecutors about how he encouraged ‘the use of demeaning and derogatory language, including racial slurs, to humiliate “slaves.”

Former members testified at Raniere’s trial that he established a secret sorority within Nxivm in about 2015 in which women were kept on starvation diets, branded with his initials and, in some cases, ordered to have sex with him.

Leaders of the group who were known as ‘slave masters’, including Mack, were said to use nude photos and other compromising materials to blackmail members into complying.

Raniere was convicted in 2019 on charges that included sex trafficking, forced labor conspiracy, human trafficking and multiple counts of racketeering, including sexual exploitation of a child, possession of child pornography, extortion and identity theft.

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, signed the 2023 Budget of N21.83 trillion along with the 2022 Supplementary Appropriation Bill into law.

Speaking at the signing of the eighth and final annual budget of his administration, the President said the aggregate expenditures of N21.83 trillion, is an increase of N1.32 trillion over the initial Executive Proposal for a total expenditure of N20.51 trillion.

He directed the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning to engage with the legislature and revisit some of the changes made to the executive budget proposal.

Bruce Fein, the International counsel for Nnamdi Kanu, detained leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Friday asked President Muhammadu Buhari to comply with the order of the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council Working Group and release his client immediately.

In a letter obtained by POLITICS NIGERIA, the American constitutional lawyer said President Buhari is depriving Kanu of his liberty and thus violating 16 international human rights covenants.

Kanu is being prosecuted on charges of terrorism and has been held in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja since June 2021. The IPOB leader’s lawyers have continued to protest his detention arguing that a Nigerian court discharged him in October 2022.

Dear President Buhari:

If you fear God, you should release Namdi Kanu from his protracted illegal detention forthwith. If you do not, you should tremble for your fate by remembering that God is just, and that his justice will not sleep forever.

Nearly six months ago, on July 20, 2022, the United Nations Human Rights Council Working Group on Arbitrary Detention issued Opinion №25/2022. It unanimously concluded that your government is illegally detaining Nnamdi Kanu in violation of sixteen (16i) jus cogens international law prescriptions, i.e., they are binding on every nation as universal principles of justice. Paragraph 105.

The Working Group added, “[T]aking into account the circumstances of the case, the appropriate remedy would be for the Government of Nigeria to release Mr. Kanu immediately, and for both [Nigeria and Kenya] to accord him an enforceable right to compensation and other reparations in accord with international law…[T]he Working Group calls upon the Government of Nigeria to take urgent action to ensure the immediate unconditional release of Mr. Kanu.” Paragraph 107.

The Working Group requested a timely update of your government’s compliance with its decree, which has been scorned. Nothing has been done to comply with the Working Group’s urgent call for Mr. Kanu’s immediate unconditional release. He remains in solitary confinement in the custody of DSS. Among other things, Mr. Kanu has been denied necessary medical care for a possible life-threatening ailment. Every day since July 20, 2022, has been a new high-water mark of your government’s criminal detention of Mr. Kanu, compounding the crimes involved in his initial kidnapping, torture, and extraordinary rendition from Kenya.

If Justice rather than Tyranny occupied Aso Rock, your government would be the accused and Mr. Kanu the prosecutor.

In a larger sense, your government’s ongoing criminality spreads far beyond one individual. Your administration has stooped to genocide and crimes against humanity in destroying, traumatizing, and terrorizing the lives of seventy (70) million Biafrans for exercising their unalienable right to seek, by non-violent means, self-determination, i.e., government by the consent of the governed.

That cherished right was extinguished by the British more than a century ago. Nigeria has refused to redress Great Britain’s racist injustice for more than 60 years since independence. One insincere attempt in 1966 was stillborn and provoked the genocidal Biafran Civil War.

Your administration continues to insist, by force and violence, on boundaries illegally drawn by White Men without the consent of a single African. There may be better ways of inviting odium in the eyes of God and natural law, but if there are, they do not readily come to mind.

Governments are formed to secure life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness; and, that when a government becomes destructive of those ends it is the right and duty of the People to alter or abolish it. By those universal standards, Biafrans have for decades possessed a right to a free, fair, and peaceful independence referendum as was provided South Sudan in 2011 and Eritrea in 1993. Prince Harry has recalled a cruel fight he had with wife Meghan Markle that led him to seek therapy.

In his memoir titled “Spare”, the Duke of Sussex recalled how he became “touchy” and “snapped” at Meghan when a conversation “took an unexpected turn”.

While he doesn’t reveal what the argument was about, the pair had to separate from one another and spent a “full 15 minutes apart” over Harry’s sudden loud tone towards the former “Suits” actress.

Recalling the fight, Harry wrote: “She was calm, but said in a quiet, level tone that she would never stand for being spoken to like that.

The abducted Sole Administrator of Ideato North Local Government Area (LGA) of Imo State, Chris Ohizu, has been beheaded by some ‘Unknown Gunmen’.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Unknown Gunmen is a catch-all for the criminal gangs carrying out frequent bouts of attacks on southeast residents.

The council boss was butchered on Sunday after his abductors allegedly received N6 million as ransom. He was abducted last week, with his house burnt down.

Video of his beheading surfaced online, where his killers insisted that there would be no election in the southeast part of Nigeria.

This newspaper gathered that the assailants published videos of the beheading with the phone of their victim on his WhatsApp status.

“The sole administrator has been beheaded,” a source confirmed to the press.

“We saw videos of how he was being beheaded on Sunday. His killers posted it with his phone on his own WhatsApp status. That was how people got to know that he was beheaded.

“The videos were horrible. He was tied and half naked before he was beheaded. That was a painful way to die. They butchered him after collecting N6 million ransom.”

When contacted, the spokesman of the police in Imo State, Henry Okoye, said “investigation is ongoing”.
