Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney has revealed Sir Alex Ferguson never shouted at Portuguese winger, Nani during his time at Old Trafford.

The former United boss was famed for his hairdryer treatment on his players when they are not playing to his instructions which yearned results as he led the team to a multiple glories at the Old Trafford.

However, Rooney has claimed that Nani never got the hairdryer treatment due to the psychological effect its had on on his game.

He said: “Sir Alex was really clever like that.

A Surulere Chief Magistrate Court in Lagos on Wednesday granted bail in the sum of N200,000 to one Daniel Okon who allegedly defiled his neighbour’s four-year-old daughter. Chief Magistrate A. Ipaye-Nwachukwu also ordered that Okon, 36, should produce two sureties, one of whom should be a civil servant of Grade Level 14 or above.
She directed that the other surety must be a landlord in Lagos State.

Ipaye-Nwachukwu added that the sureties should provide evidence of tax payment.

Okon, who resides at Aguda in Surulere, Lagos, had pleaded not guilty to counts of defilement and indecent treatment of a minor.

‎‎The prosecutor, Sgt. Anthonia Osayande, earlier told the court that the accused lured the child into his apartment and had sexual intercourse with her while her parents were away.

She said that Okon committed the offences at 11.56.a.m. on April 21.

‎The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the alleged offences contravene Sections 137 and 135(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The case has been adjourned until June 27 for mention. (NAN)

Authorities say a drunken driving suspect who was chased by police from Maryland into Pennsylvania identified herself as Hillary Clinton. Pennsylvania State Trooper Robert Politowski says the woman he arrested early Tuesday is actually 36-year-old Holly Lynn Donahoo, of Louisville, Kentucky.
She was being chased by sheriff's deputies from Garret County, Maryland, and Maryland State Police when she drove into Wharton Township, in Pennsylvania's Fayette County.

Politowski joined the chase and used spike strips to flatten Donahoo's tires.

She was taken to a hospital, where police say she refused drugs and alcohol testing.

She has been jailed on charges including driving under the influence and fleeing or eluding police.
Donahoo doesn't have an attorney. Her preliminary hearing is set for May 9.

It's unclear why she identified herself as Hillary Clinton.

The Senate Press Corp has expressed concern over drastic reduction of television cameramen and women covering Senate proceedings by Senate bureaucracy.

The Chairman of the Senate Press Corps, Mr Cosmas Ekpunobi in a statement described the decision of the Senate bureaucracy as unhealthy and an attempt to cause friction between the media and the National Assembly.

“The attention of Senate Press Corps leadership has been drawn to decision of the Senate bureaucracy to further reduce the number of television news crews (cameramen) covering plenary from 13 to 6. The change came into operation today, precipitating the reported boycott of the cameramen of today’s senate proceedings.

“We want to reiterate here that the Senate Press Corp leadership will never condone any unprofessional conduct by any of our members.

“We accepted to call our erring members to order and get back to the Clerk of the Senate for further action.

“We expected the clerk to rescind his decision pending the outcome of our meeting with the cameramen today.

“We believe that this issue can still be resolved through dialogue as we are amenable to consensual decision reached by all parties,” he said.

He said journalists in the senate had often been told that no parliament in the world allowed cameramen into the chamber.

The chairman said while such was true, those parliaments, however, had functional central pool units to deliver quality feeds.

“Until such equipment is installed with the requisite broadcast professionals to man them, we plead for a stay of execution,” he said.

Mr. Ekpunobi urged the Chairman Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Abdullahi Sabi, to intervene in the matter.

The Nigerian government is set to employ 47,000 people in its drive to construct roads across the country, an official has said.

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, made this disclosure at a stakeholder’s meeting organised by the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, on Thursday in Abuja.

Mr. Fashola noted that to implement the plan, the government would collaborate with the National Assembly.

The former Lagos State governor, who explained how vocational and technical education had significantly contributed to the development of Singapore, Canada and South Africa , amongst others, said Nigeria must shape its educational system to facilitate the growth of the economy.

The minister reiterated that the Muhammadu Buhari-led government had worked out plans on how to engage thousands of artisans and technicians, particularly through the Federal Road Maintenance Agency, to fix roads across the country.

“We, therefore, conclude that technical education systems are dynamic, the challenges are, of course, unique because human needs vary with time,” the minister said.

“We have to shape our educational system based on our economy. Our system must therefore be relevant and responsive; We must plan for the future and not the past.”

Mr. Fashola also explained that Nigeria is investing in infrastructure, adding that the plan accounted for the thirty per cent earmarked for capital allocation in the entire 2016 budget.

“In the 2016 national budget , capital allocation alone was N1.8 trillion, which is a jump to 30 per cent of the total budget,” he said.

“We are currently planning for all these infrastructure that we are building…the idea is to actually change FERMA (Federal Road Maintenance Agency), which is to review the FERMA law and come up with another law.

“The essence is that FERMA should ultimately be the biggest construction company in this country.

“The idea is to employ about 47 ,000 people just to fix roads and the plan is there,” he submitted.

The Lagos State Police Command has declared the estrange husband of Nollywood actress, Mercy Aigbe wanted. Three other uspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The Divisional Police officer of the Ojudu division, CSP, Fatai Shoetan, in a report, said “Lanre Gentry is now at large and three suspects arrested were charged to Magistrate court 8 Ogba.”

A video footage also shows the three arrested suspects harassing the actress outside her home.

Recall that the crisis rocking the marriage of the actress went viral last week and has escalated, leading to the Lagos State Government ​opening a probe into the alleged domestic violence.

Lanre Gentry, who came out to deny battering his wife, also claimed that the actress had been going through mental disorder.

A lady identified as Obianuju Pauis has taken to social media to share her love story and traditional wedding pictures. She said she met her hubby on Sunday, April 9, the final day of the Big Brother Naija reality show which Efe won, and few weeks later, they have gotten married.

The tragic death of a 23-year-old apprentice tailor, Jamiu Ayoade, has caused grief in Ijeshatedo, Lagos State, Punch reports.

Jamiu was allegedly shot dead by the Divisional Police Officer of the Ijesha Police Station, identified as Muhammed Yakubu.

It was learnt that Jamiu, who lived on Oke-Onijo Street, had gone to Wosilatu Daudu, a neighbouring street, to attend a birthday party of a friend, Abubakar Animashaun, around 4pm on Sunday.

It was gathered that the DPO and his men went on surveillance to the venue around 5pm, and left a few minutes after they were told of what the event was all about.

About two hours later, the team was said to have returned to the area in a van, announcing their presence with blaring of sirens and gunshots, which scared away the fun seekers.

The DPO reportedly followed some people, including Jamiu, who ran to safety in a building. He was said to have shot Jamiu at a close range with his service pistol.

An eyewitness, who claimed to be the brother of the birthday boy, Jelili Bakare, told PUNCH Metro that the policemen fled the scene, immediately Jamiu was hit by a bullet.

He said,

“Some policemen came around 5pm when the event just started. They asked a woman called Iya Aliya what was going on. She told them that it was a birthday party and they left. Around 7.30pm, I was sitting with my friends outside when I heard the blaring of police sirens. The van stopped some distance to the venue of the party and some policemen, led by the DPO, came out and started shooting. People ran helter-skelter. Many people fell into a gutter.

“The DPO brought out a pistol and chased some people into a passage. He shot twice at them. A bullet hit Jamiu in the head, while another person, Akeem, was shot in the hand. Immediately they saw the harm they had caused, they entered their van and fled. We went to the Ijesha Police Station, but we were not allowed to make a report. We then went to the Itire Police Division, but we were directed back to the Ijesha division.

“Nobody was fighting that would have warranted the police action. Around 9pm, the DPO and his men came back in about five vans. Nobody was arrested.

“This morning (Monday), we were invited to the secretariat of the Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area. We narrated what happened to an official called Mrs. Raji. She called the DPO on the telephone and he met us in her office.

“The woman told us to excuse them. After their discussion, the woman called us in. She said the DPO told her that Jamiu had a case with the police. I was shocked. I told the woman that the boy was an apprentice and easy-going. He did not drink or smoke and had never been arrested before. The woman said I should not worry.”

Animashaun, who was marking his 22nd birthday, said he had yet to recover from the shock, adding that he was pained Jamiu was killed for no just cause.

“I didn’t know the mission of the policemen at the venue because there was no fight. Jamiu was a decent person. He was my friend. It was the DPO that shot him,” he added.

Jamiu’s brother, Taofiq Ayoade, said the victim was rushed to a private hospital in the community from where he was referred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba.

“He gave up the ghost on the way to LUTH. He was not a suspect. He was learning tailoring and was supposed to graduate this year. He was not a criminal. He would leave for his workplace around 9am and come back by 8.30pm. He was 23. Our mother lives in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The officer that killed him must face the consequence of his action,” he said.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, confirmed the raid in a text message, but was silent on the killing.

He said;

“There was an incident relating to a raid on some suspected cult members in the Ijesha area of Lagos. Arrest of a suspect has been made, while investigation is ongoing. Further details will be communicated soon.”
