LionHeart: English language not official language? by Brookey55(m) : 7:47 pm |
Disappointment is the feeling of dissatisfaction that follows the failure of expectations or hopes to manifest. Following the recent breaking news of a Nigerian movie by one of the veteran actresses, Genevieve, titled ‘LionHeart’ was nominated in the Oscar category of the Best International Feature Film category for award by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, an International Awarder, however, the movie has been disqualified, because it was predominantly English Language, which is against their rules. This disqualification news broken so many hearts but good news to some, as many tweeted if English Language is not an official Language in Nigeria. According to reactions in response to the academy’s decision, Genevieve Nnaji tweeted that her movie “represents the way we speak as Nigerians. This includes English, which acts as a bridge between the 500+ languages spoken in our country. … We did not choose who colonized us. As ever, this film and many like it is proudly Nigerian.†“I was confused when I saw people being bitter online about Genevieve’s Lionheart being disqualified from the Oscar’s. Please understand that they have strict guidelines to follow. Until this year, the category was called Best Foreign Language Film. There is no funny business hereâ€. “See until we begin to tell ourselves the truth. Should @genevieve’s LION HEART have made the nomination? I mean it’s just like a regular youtube movie. I can draw up a list of top 10 movies from last year and Lion Heart won’t smell itâ€. “Genevieve’s Lion heart movie was refreshing. If you didn’t enjoy it, just know that the world is not that seriousâ€. “I am not sure Genevieve read the rules before submitting Lionheart“. On contrary, English Language is the official language of Nigerians, but English being against the rules of Oscars, meaning Nigerian movies won’t be qualified in any of Oscars awards category?
