(ICPC) Recovers Tractors Worth N76.6m From Misau, Hospital Equipment From Akpabio. by bello5653(m) : 10:26 am |
Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and its partners through the Constituency Projects Tracking Group (CPTG) initiative have recovered six tractors meant for the use of farmers in six councils of Bauchi Central Senatorial District. ICPC spokesperson, Rasheedat Okoduwa, disclosed yesterday in Abuja that the tractors were part of the N430 million contract for the supply of agricultural machinery to farmers in the district, which was awarded in 2015. According to Okoduwa, the CPTG team for Bauchi State discovered that N76.6 million was paid for the tractors in December 2015 and supplied in March 2016, adding that they were supposed to have been distributed for the use of farmers in Misau, Dambam, Ningi, Warji, Darazo and Ganjuwa. She said: “In the effort to trace the tractors, Isa Misau, the then senator under whose auspices the project was included in the budget to be executed by the MDG office, met with officials of ICPC in Bauchi and in a written statement claimed that the tractors were kept in Yuli village.†Also, she disclosed that among the recoveries so far made by the CPTG team are dialysis machine, ECG monitor, oxygen regulator and other hospital equipment meant for a cottage hospital in Ukana, Essien Udim Council of Akwa Ibom State, from the premises of Mma Obot Foundation, allegedly belonging to Senator Godswill Akpabio. Meanwhile, the federal government has renewed its commitment towards the fight against corruption in the country, saying there is no going back.Executive secretary, Presidential Advisory Committee against Corruption, Prof. Sadiq Isah-Radda, said this at a forum on anti-corruption in Kano yesterday. As far as the federal government is concerned, there is no going back on the fight against corruption,†he declared. He said “though there are challenges, we will continue with the fight because nobody will come from heaven to do it for us. The most disturbing issue is ‘illicit financial flows’ where billions and billions are being taken out of the country by crooks.“Corruption has been as old as the country so much that it is becoming a way of life. Before now, those who refused to loot were seen as fools. When things became worse, the fight against corruption became a campaign issue in 2015.â€He, therefore, called on Nigerians, irrespective of political and religious inclinations, to support President Muhammadu Buhari to eliminate corruption in the country for the betterment of the country.
