Experts from Kent State University in the United States have begun specialised training for teachers in the employ of Sokoto state government.

The training is part of an agreement entered into in 2017 by the government and the school on academic and cultural exchanges.

Speaking when he received the team at Government House in Sokoto, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal expressed delight at the progress made so far since the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the two entities.

He said the state government will ensure other components of the agreement have been adhered to.

“Apart from teacher-improvement activities, other aspects of the agreement include organising joint seminar and conferences, hosting of faculty members from partner institutions, development of joint research and publications, development of specialised degree completion programmes and accelerated attention for girls to girls’ education for the benefit of the state,” he added.

He said the ultimate goal was to improve the quality of education in Sokoto by tapping from the experience and expertise of the Americans.
