Speed limiting devices will reduce road crashes by 70% – FRSC by Airdy(m) : 2:10 pm

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Tuesday said the speed limiting devices introduced by the commission had the capacity to reduce road accidents by 70 per cent annually.

Mr Adegoke Adetunji, the Ogun Sector Commander of FRSC, disclosed this in Ota during an awareness campaign and stakeholders forum on speed limiting devices organised by the commission with Megatracker Speed Limiter.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that theme of the forum was ”Speed Limiter- A Nostrum for Road Traffic Crash Reduction in Nigeria”.

NAN reports that the National Assembly, had on April 1, directed the FRSC to postpone the enforcement date on the installation of speed limiting devices on vehicles.

Adetunji said that full enforcement of the policy would soon commerce.

He said that there was need for FRSC and relevant stakeholders as well as the media to embark on massive public enlightenment to raise awareness among the public.

Adetunji advised Nigerians to embrace the use of speed imiting devices to save lives on the nation’s roads.

”No nation can attain sustainable development by continuously losing its future leaders to road crashes,” the sector commander said.

Mr Leye Adegboyega, the Unit Commander of FRSC, Sango-Ota, said that the major cause of road crashes is speeding.

Adegboyega said that speed played vital roles in the determination of crashes and chance of survival.

”The higher the speed of a vehicle, the higher its chances or propensity to crash,” he said.

Adegboyega advised motorists, especially commercial drivers, to embrace the devices so that road accidents could be reduced to the barest minimum.

Mr Tunde Adesanya, the Chief Marketing Officer, Megatracker Speedlimiter, said that the speed limiting devices would put drivers in check and ensure sanity on the roads.

”The more we encourage people to embrace the policy, the more lives would be saved from crashes,” Adesanya said.

Adesanya said that with proper sensitisation, the people would be willing to use the devices.
