APC reacts to Assassination attempt on Cross-river Guber candidate, Venatius Ikem by Emlr(f) : 1:40 pm

The All Progressives Congress in Cross River state has released a statement on the assassination attempt made on the life of its candidate in the upcoming Guber elections in the state, Venatius Ikem.

In a statement titled ‘Ayade’s Shameful show of force’ signed by the acting chairman of the state chapter of the party, John Ochala, the party revealed that several of its members were left with life-threatening injuries after the attack. The statement read;

“News got to us about the disruption of a civil function of one of our own, Barr. Vena Ikem at the APC Party Secretariat Obudu, the occasion was his formal declaration to aspire for the seat of Governor of Cross River State in 2019.

Early signs of trouble started when the DPO refused to approve a written request for police protection at the venue. A delegation of APC faithfuls from Boki chapter were chased away by hired thugs.

Mr. Romanus Egbonyi, chapter chairman of Abi escaped with a broken left arm, Barr. Ene was escorted to a private clinic with a deep cut on his head, several other party faithfuls had various degrees of injuries.

Upon Preliminary investigations and without speculation, it is very clear that this act was carried out by agents of the PDP.

Governor Ayade’s government is recruiting cultists in the guise of political appointments in preparation for 2019 elections.

This reign of terror is intended to stop anybody from any party (especially the APC) from contesting against him. You will recall that a similar destruction of property was carried out at this same venue last year during the opening ceremony of the secretariat. You will also recall the threat to lives of Barr Joe Odok, Mr.Paul Ifere, and Rt.Hon. Paul Adah, all in a bid to stop them and the APC from exposing the ills of the PDP government to the world. Instead of facing the task of providing infrastructures for Cross Riverians, they are busy infringing on our fundamental human rights to peaceful assembly.

This is one lawless act too many, we will not fold our arms and watch Ayade and his gang intimidate our people. Steps are already in motion, and avenues being explored to see how we can bring this timid and lawless acts to an end. We are in constant touch with the prime target of this latest action, we won’t give details here for security reasons, but be rest assured that the matter is being given it’s needed attention.

Let me also assure you that all APC Cross River State Leaders domiciled in Abuja are equally doing all they can to see how we can bring this timid and lawless acts to an end.

I must appreciate all APC members for showing so much love and concern to one of us and for standing up against an oppressive and retrogressive government.

Injustice to one is injustice to all.

Go about your legitimate duties without let or hindrance and do not take laws into your own hands.

Be rest assured that their actions cannot intimidate us, we have only been told that we are a serious threat to their continuous stay in government house. Come 2019 by the special Grace of God through the instrumentality of our collective efforts, the APC will be democratically elected to pilot the affairs of government in the State.”
